COMMUNICATIONS:
Ed Smith has volunteered to become the
Flotilla's Communications Officer a position that has not been previously
filled by the Flotilla. He will be setting up a Radio Station to
service the Flotilla's area of responsibility and will be arranging for
watch standers and training for same will be initiated after the first of
the year.
PATROLS:
Flotilla 12-2 has an active Patrol program. While
on Safety Patrols qualified members will check
Public Aids to Navigation
reporting on their condition and verifying location. Marine Environmental
Protection also receives
attention on Safety Patrols. The accompanying photos illustrate the Regatta
and Law
Enforcement Platform function utilizing the Flotilla's facilities. Flotilla Vessels
often assist
in Search and Rescue operations and managing vessel traffic in
regattas, boat parades and recovery
operations. Although the Auxiliarists are not authorized as law
enforcement their facilities and
operators can and do function as law
enforcement facilities when Coast Guard, Tennessee DNR or
local Sheriffs personnel are aboard.
