for answers to THE RESERVES - The Coast Guard Reserve is a military organization that is organized, trained, supplied and administered under the direction of the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard. The purpose of the Coast Guard Reserve is to provide trained and qualified personnel available for active duty in time of war or national emergency and at such other times as the national security requires. WANT TO BECOME AN OFFICER? Officer's Candidate School is a rigorous seventeen-week course of instruction that prepares candidates to serve effectively as officers in the United States Coast Guard. Civilian applicants must have already earned a bachelors degree and must meet specific age and medical standards. Direct Commissions are available for those individuals with special training and skills. Check out the link to see if your skills are needed and you can qualify. The Coast Guard Academy graduate earns a Bachelor of Science Degree and leaves for active duty as a commissioned officer. |
