                THE AUXILIARY VESSEL SAFETY CHECK

The Auxiliary's Vessel Safety Check formally known as Courtesy Marine Examinationis provided to owners or operators of privately owned recreational boats.  Certain federal, state and local government owned boats and commercial or party fishing boats less than 65 feet in length may also receive an Auxilary Vessel Safety Check.  A Vessel passing the Safety Check is awarded an easily visible Decal that lets the Coast Guard, Tennessee Department of Natural Resources and other law enforcement agencies know that the vessel complies with the US Coast Guard and safety requirements of Tennessee.  The Auxiliary Decal also indicates that the boat is equipped with certain other important safety devises not legally required.

An Auxiliary Decal is a reassuring indication to the Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies that this vessel owner complies with the law and provides an extra dimension of safety for the Operator and all others aboard for whom he is responsible.  Vessels not bearing a CME Decal are more likely to be boarded and be exposed to possible fines for safety equipment deficiencies.

While Vessel Examination activity is often in the form of a Blitz at one of the local marinas or boat ramps you can arrange to have your boat checked by contacting our FSO-VE.
